July is Disability Pride Month, celebrated worldwide. In the U.S., it also marks the significant milestone of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), passed in July 1990. Disability Pride Month challenges ableism and discrimination that people with disabilities may experience. This month, we celebrate their contributions and support redefining how society perceives and defines disability. People with disabilities form the largest minority in our nation and actively participate in all facets of society. This group includes individuals of all ages, races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, religions, and socio-economic backgrounds. Disability pride is a celebration of accepting and cherishing each person’s distinctiveness, recognizing it as a natural and beautiful aspect of human diversity.
Happy Disability Pride Month!
