Richardo I. Kilpatrick is Of Counsel at the Firm’s Michigan office and has concentrated his practice in corporate law, insolvency and creditors’ rights for over 25 years.  He is a past president of the American Bankruptcy Institute.

As a national lecturer and consultant, he has provided guidance to numerous clients in all areas and types of insolvency matters, and on state and federal laws, including but not limited to Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Truth In Lending, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Service members Relief Act and various privacy laws.

He is a contributing editor for the Norton’s Bankruptcy Law and Practice, 2nd Edition and is an editor for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s “Handling Consumer and Small Business Bankruptcies in Michigan.”

He has represented secured creditors in complex bankruptcy cases including, Budget Group, and Breed Technology.  He has also represented local taxing units, the City of Detroit, and other clients in the following bankruptcy cases:  General Motors, Chrysler, K-Mart Corporation, National Steel Corporation, Rouge Industries, Inc., Montgomery Ward, LLC, Safety Kleen Corporation, Lear Corporation, and Visteon Corporation.

He is an approved mediator in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
